Dan Deacon Signs to Carpark Records, Plans Tour
Baltimore-based electro-acoustic musician Dan Deacon has announced his next album,
Spiderman of the Rings, will be released by Carpark Records on May 8. The LP is the follow-up to
Acorn Master, released by Psych-O-Path Records in mid-2006.
Carpark’s website describes
Spiderman of the Rings as Dan’s “first album bridging the gap between party performer and genuine composer. A mixture of his live show dance anthems, intricate instrumentals and humorous monologues,
Spiderman of the Rings establishes Dan Deacon as a new type of entertainer in the contemporary underground.”
Named by the Baltimore City Paper as the “Best Solo Music Artist” of 2005, Dan’s influences include pop-friendly acts (Talking Heads and Devo) along with more boundary-busting artists (Raymond Scott and The Residents). Given that Dan’s instruments of choice are Casio keyboards, vocoders and esoteric electronic doodads, fans may be surprised to know Dan holds a Master’s Degree in Music Composition.
The ever-busy live performer will also traverse the U.S. for a number of concerts with artist collective Wham City and Adult., among others. The tour kicks off in March and continues through early May. On previous outings, Dan has played with such artists as Lightning Bolt, Cat Power, The Microphones and Danielson Familie. Dan’s
MySpace page has a full list of dates for his current tour.
