British singer Lily Allen will head up MTV's first Discover and Download tour, which will hit clubs in seven cities beginning Feb. 5 in Los Angeles.
Allen, who found fame in her home country via
MySpace, is touring in support of "Alright, Still," her debut album slated for release Jan. 30 in the United States. The album will be the first CD in the United States to include u-myx software, which allows fans to create their own mixes, her publicist said. In addition, the US release will feature two bonus tracks: "Nan You're a Window Shopper" and "Smile (Version Revisited)," remixed by DJ Mark Ronson. Fans who pre-order the album via Allen's
website will receive an autographed poster, according to the site.
Allen has been nominated for four Brit Awards, the UK equivalent of the Grammys: British Breakthrough Act, British Single for "Smile," British Album and British Female Solo. The ceremony is Feb. 14 at London's Earls Court.
Besides her "Discover and Download" appearances, Allen will perform Feb. 2 on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
Allen is starring in musical vignettes on MTV, mtvU and MTV.com in which she discusses fashion, the Internet and body image. Free downloads from the tour will be available on music.mtv.com, according to a press release.
"Lily is not your typical 'cookie cutter' pop star. She's not afraid to speak her mind through her lyrics on topics that are important to our audience," said Amy Doyle, MTV's senior vice president, music and talent. "She's sassy, witty, opinionated and most importantly she's talented and has a bright future ahead of her. We believe she is going to do great things."
