Babyface to Release “Playlist” in September
R&B star Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds will release his new album,
Playlist, on September 18 via the newly re-launched Mercury Records label.
Playlist is Babyface’s 11th studio album and the follow-up to 2005's
Grown and Sexy (“The Loneliness,” “Sorry for the Stupid Things”).
A bit of a creative departure for Babyface,
Playlist will feature a number of cover songs. “These songs came from memories, and these songs helped shape who I am – and they’re still shaping who I am,” Babyface says on his website. Among the tracks covered are “Fire & Rain” (James Taylor), “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” (Bob Dylan), “Longer” (Dan Fogelberg), "Time In A Bottle" (Jim Croce) and "Wonderful Tonight" (Eric Clapton), among others.
The album also includes two original songs – “Not Going Nowhere," which deals with the artist’s amicable divorce from his wife Tracey, and "The Soldier Song," inspired by a visit to a friend whose son served in Iraq.
