Bonnie “Prince” Billy to Release Covers Album
Prolific indie folk artist Bonnie “Prince” Billy (who also goes by Will Oldham and a handful of other monikers) will release a new album of cover songs on November 20 via Drag City. The album,
Ask Forgiveness, features a wide-range of selections, including Björk’s “I've Seen It All” from the soundtrack to
Dancer in the Dark, Danzig’s “Am I Demon” from his 1988 self-titled debut, and R. Kelly’s “The World's Greatest” from the
Ali soundtrack.
Bonnie “Prince” Billy is no stranger to odd musical pairings. Earlier in the year, he was seen dancing along with comedian Zack Galifianakis in a video for Kanye West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” He also contributed a track – a lo-fi cover of Mariah Carey's “Can't Take That Away” – to the compilation album
Guilt By Association from Engine Room Recordings.
Fans can expect a minimal, stripped-down sound on
Ask Forgiveness. The songs were recorded in Philadelphia with Maggie Wienk (cello) and Espers’ Meg Baird (vocals) and Greg Weeks (electric guitar).
